Five years ago, with the release of the groundbreaking reimagining of Disney’s The Lion King, the global “Protect the Pride” campaign was launched to raise awareness of the crisis facing lions – more than half the world’s lions had been lost since the debut of the original animated film in 1994. Disney businesses around the world engaged audiences and guests through unique and compelling storytelling and activations that resulted in $3M in support of the Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) and its vision to double the number of lions in the wild by 2050. In celebration of the upcoming theatrical release of Mufasa: The Lion King, arriving in theaters December 20, Disney will once again support the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) LRF and LRF’s partners working across Africa to support the efforts of local communities in Africa to conserve lions on behalf of the world.
